Isn’t it amazing?

Question by laughing: Isn’t it amazing?
Isn’t it amazing how we have all these breeds that can do such fantastic things…

Like the Saluki. That dog can survive the hot deserts of Egypt and their pads are fine!

And Pointers! They can track the scent of anything!

As well as Beagles. Wow. What amazing noses they have…

Belgian Malnois as well. They can climb over 7ft+ fences! It’s amazing!

Siberian Huskies can sled for hundreds of miles daily. Think about the dog sled races… they can run so much and keep going! They looove running.

There are so many breeds that can do such amazing things…

Which leads me to “designer” breeds. Why on earth can some people look at them and say people are breeding them to make new breeds and care? They’re mutts either way.

Puggles get me the most. Why would u breed the best hunting dog out there with the nose for anything with a dog that cannot breath and gets asthma attacks just to jump on the bed?!

Any opinions? Any other breeds you find amazing?

People don’t seem to need the sporting/working dogs unless they’re in some type of event or a hunter, or something of the sort. Now, it’s all with the looks. People will go head over heels if they see a cute dog or other animal.
I think German Shepherds are amazing. They’re so eager to learn, to please, and to serve. They’re beautiful dogs, but I don’t exactly like if they’re used in police work, unless it’s drug sniffing. I don’t like the fact that the officers will risk the dog’s life rather than their own. I understand that it’s in better interest for the police officers, but it seems like a sacrifice to me, and I think it’s flat out wrong. Same with all of the other dogs they use for that type of police work.

Am I spoiling my pets TOO much?

Question by : Am I spoiling my pets TOO much?
Before you answer this question I think you should know about my self. I live in a huge beverly hills mansion. I am a widow, have about 100 million dollars, and will do anything for my dogs.(i donate about 1 million of that to organizations). Now I will tell you about my pets, which i rescued ALL of them from shelters. I have 4 cats. Three females and 1 male. My first cat, shah, a female, is a tabby, with probably a little of Maine Coon, she is kind of chubby, but healthy, and sleeps on my pillow, she wraps her body around my head. She is about 14 years old and 14 lbs. Another one is Venus, a female, is a black and white beauty, she is lean and muscly and sleeps on her quilt in my room. She is about 6 years old and 8lbs. The last female cat is Sandstorm, a pale ginger cat. She is lean and muscly like Venus except her skin is lose and her belly is nice and round. She sleeps on her specialy made satin and silk bed in my room. She is 8 years old and 10 and a half lbs. The bot cat is actually a kitten, he is about 6 months old and weighs 4 lbs. His stomach is adorable and plumps out so big and cute! But he is not unhealthy at all. He is a white Turkish Angora and is named Mickey. He sleeps on the bed curled up next to me on the very side just touching my stomach. Now to the dogs. I have 4 dogs. Two females and two males. The first one is Chloe, a female chihuahua. She has designer clothes. She is 4 years old and weighs 6 lbs. She sleeps on the other side of me, curled up in the crease of my legs. My next one is Franchesca, a female american eskimo dog. She had been shot before i got her but now has an awesome life. She weighs 28 lbs and is 8 yrs. old. Then there is Moose and Zeus, both boys, they are both german shepherd mixes and are good guard dogs. Moose weighs 102 lbs, a good weight for some one his size, and is 6 years old. He sleeps on the half couch at the end of my bed. Zeus weighs 89 lbs, and is three years old. He sleeps on the other half of my bed.
They are all fed homemade meals, made by our chef, and can swim in our pool, since it is salt water instead of chlorine. They get whatever they want and are considered my children. They go to the spa at least onca a weak and get mani/pedis and facials and mud baths and trims and etc. So do I spoil my pets TOO much? And I am considering buying a dog mansion, and have a fund of 0,000 dollars on that project, but my question is… should I do it? And if i should. where are places were i can get this done? and any ideas on how I should decorate the inside/outside?
P.S. I would NEVER EVER die my pets hair!
ok, first of all you, you know who i am talking about! are so stereotypical, and second of all this is the INTERNET. and people dont type like they r abunch of prissys, they type as short as possible. I am one of those people. I know how to do it correctly but why should I? And second of all, if you actually read my question you would have seen that it said I was a widow! I married my RICH husband, and then he died.

Wow! I think its great that you rescue animals and donate to organizations. I personally don’t think that you’re spoiling your pets too much. You obviously love them and just want the best for them. Im sure any parent would do the best they can to make their children happy.

Questions about becoming an Interior Decorator?

Question by ?º ?imß? º?: Questions about becoming an Interior Decorator?
I’m only 14 right now.
I was wondering if you had to be extremely good at math like the area and perimeter crap to become a good interior designer/ decorator.
I’m like really bad at math.
I like coming up with ideas for painting and furniture.
My room isn’t the best right now… mostly because of my bed… I got rid of it because my dog couldn’t get up on it, and I was just sick and tired of that ugly bed.
My walls are mint green, baby blue, white and black.
It sounds ugly, because of the black, but it’s actually pretty nice because it goes with my blanket pattern and my dresser and nightstand…

Wall: (http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac186/iMintDropping/Photo2.jpg)
I’d take a picture of my room but it’s messy.

I was also wondering about things that are needed and courses that I should take if I want to be an Interior designer/ decorator.
I’ll take anything except for art or drama… just in case anyone would say that I’d need like charisma skills or something that has to do with art… I dislike my art teacher and I refuse to be taught by her again.

What should we ask for for Christmas? (12 and 8 years old)?

Question by Tedi: What should we ask for for Christmas? (12 and 8 years old)?
Me (I am 12 years old) and my sister (8 years old) need some ideas for Christmas. I am a girly girl. Here is my list so far

- PInk Skinny Jeans
- Pink alarm/radio
- Claire’s Gift Card
- Pink Hair extensions
- Cash
- Any other colored skinny jeans
- Nail Polish
- Hair Stuff

My sister loves dogs and the color green, here is her list

- Dog dictionary
- Ankle Socks
- New Sheets for bed
- Mosquito net canopy (green)
- CD’s (Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift)
- Hair Stuff
- Scarf
- Fashion Designer DS game
- Earrings
- Green Shoes

Nothing really expensive please.

Best answer:

Answer by Well isn’t that speeeeecial!
You said not to add anything expensive. I take this to mean that you want to be considerate of your parents’ budget. Well if that is correct, then why are you asking this question? You both already have a list, so why are you looking for more, More, MORE? That’s called GREED and it’s not very nice.

Just leave the lists at what you already have and be happy with it. Christmas is not supposed to be about getting as much stuff from your parents as you can. They provide for you all throughout the year, EVERY year, and that should be enough for you.

Besides, if there was anything you really really wanted and just couldn’t live without, you’d already know what it was.

Do you believe people try to live through their dogs?

Question by ?: Do you believe people try to live through their dogs?
Look at all of the dogs today wearing designer clothes, eating out of Porcelain dishes, and sleeping on designer beds.

Also look at the amount of dogs pregnant because their owner wanted “them to be a mommy” as well as “have little bwaybies”.

One of my friends made a great point- that a lot of people try to live through their dogs.

Do you think this is often times the case?
Yes, no wonder she’s on the leaderboard!
Itsme- LOL, I’m not jealous. My dogs dobn’t get “spa days” but they are happy as a lark with just playing fetch.
itsme- you missed the entire point. I meant more the latter part than the first part- no need to get so darn offended.

Loki- yes, it’s quite disturbing..
Emilie- not what I meant at all… I too am guilty with talking to my dogs, as they do listen better than any of my friends do!

I meant more the whole “mommy” thing, etc.

Answer by Brutus
Yes. Not only live through them, but use them like some sort of fashion accessory.

Education for those who dont know too much about puppy mills?

Question by Beebs: Education for those who dont know too much about puppy mills?
Being part of the YA community I see a lot of people who purchased their designer dogs from a puppy mill and/or pet store (or of course from a “breeder” who breeds pure somethingdoodles or what not)… These same people also and a multitude of questions about breeding their own ‘pure something doodle’ with a ‘pure something chi’ or something like that…
All of us who know better tend to attack these people and assume that they know better… It occurred to me that maybe they dont?
Everyone has heard of puppy mills and puppy farms etc, but not all of those people actually GET what they are… Puppy farm sounds like the coolest place in the world! I beautiful greed farm where dogs and puppies run freely, get fed well and get all of the love in the world. It’s NOT like that at all…. And buying a sick pup is the least of your worries of you buy from a BYB or puppy mill or pet store… It’s the torture that the dogs still at the puppy mill are still going through because YOU the buyer kept the dog trade going.
It’s very possible, perhaps that you dont know what goes on at places like this and I thought I would take the time to educate you and perhaps help you make a better decision next time, like adopting from a shelter, or never, ever breeding your dog, no matter now cute it is or how much you love it.
Please watch these videos to enlighten you. If I change one persons mind today i will be very happy!

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=puppy+mills&search_type=&aq=f

Have I helped anyone to understand what does on behind closed doors? and what your cute, innocent little puppy has seen and lived through before he or she got a cushy bed in your home?

Please add and respond as you wish.
I probably should have spell checked etc before I posted… I meant “beautiful green farm”.
EMILIE-
I was sent the Australian one from an organisation when it was brand new also… To add to my Animal Rights website.
CINDY-
Do you have any idea how much the dog industry has changed in the past 14 years? It’s insane now! Of course not all puppy mill puppies will be sick, but there is a HIGH chance of it… And what the dogs go through is torture. There ARE no “good” puppy mills at all – when dogs are treated as breeding machines, whether they are caged or not, fed or not, it is TORTURE.
SHOW BREEDERS SELL SICK PUPS-
I think its less about the legality of it… Legal doesnt mean right. Do you know that in the state I love in, it’s legal to own a dog and keep it in a cage for its entire life if the dog can stand up and turn around and the roof has partial cover? Thats legal, but its WRONG! If people were more educated about it (hence this post) then maybe people would realise and stop promoting puppy mills, regardless of how legal it is.
LILY-
Firstly, a labradoodle is not a breed, its a mix… and I have NOTHING against poodle mixes, I have a poodle mix of my own actually! Though she came from a shelter and not a breeder. Though, poodle mixes are a trend… they claim to all be hypoallergenic dogs etc which they arent as there is no way of knowing how a mutt will turn out. I love my mutts, but still, I would have had no clue how they would be as adults.
You may have got your dog from a ‘breeder’, but believe it or not, I wasnt just talking to you! No matter where YOUR dog came from, there are still plenty of dogs around the world stuck in these puppy mills! No one every said YOUR dog came from one, so just tone it down. I know you dont like be because I told u the truth in one of your questions, but no need to relate a question on educating people on puppy mills to YOU and YOUR dog… Puppy mills exist – bottom line. They are horrible, torturous places! People need to learn this!

Which Breeder would YOU Buy a Puppy From?

Question by ~PapSett~: Which Breeder would YOU Buy a Puppy From?
Purely hypothetical, of course. There is no “neither” option. You ARE buying a puppy… and these are your 2 choices.

Breeder A:

This breeder owns only 1 b*tch. She is a sporting breed, say a Gordon Setter. She was bought by them from a well-known show kennel, both of her parents champion titled, OFAd, all relevant health tests done. Her sire is a best in show, best in specialty winning dog. This b*tch was shown to her championship, achieved a CDX obedience title, and a Junior Hunter title for field work. She lives as a beloved house pet, sleeps at the foot of her owner’s bed.

She has been bred to a champion, best in show winning male, who has also passed all his health certifications. He is, however, a kennel dog, and has never done obedience or field work.

The puppies are all completely vetted, and in addition have been temperament tested by 2 different people knowledgeable to the breed. They had neurological stimulation done at 7 days, the optimum age for this.

In order to buy one of these puppies, you must fill out a lengthy questionnaire, letting the breeder know what your living situation is, what you are looking for in a dog and what you plan to do with this dog. They offer a lifetime health guarantee on their puppies, and will take back the dog at any time in it’s life if you are unable to keep it. All pet quality pups are sold on a spay/neuter contract, The breeder will refund 0 on the purchase price when you have the dog OFAd at maturity.

These puppies stay with their mother until at least 9 weeks of age. They have a beautiful big puppy pen to play in with miniature puppy agility equipment to play on. They are well socialized, brave, and afraid of nothing.

This breeder works hard with local and national breed rescue and volunteers at their local shelter.

Breeder B:

This breeder created ‘designer dogs’. They have several questionably bred b*tches they purchased from pet stores, Pomeranians. One has patella luxation that was surgically repaired when she was younger, but she is bred anyway. Another has severe skin allergies, and again, she is bred anyway, to a Chihuahua.

This breeder admits that they don’t care about shelter dogs, saying that ‘they aren’t my problem’. They breed their designer dogs because that is where the most profit is. These puppies are sold at 5-6 weeks of age, with their only vaccinations being what the breeder gives herself.

This breeder is also planning to branch out to breed goldendoodles, with a Golden Retriever b*tch she bought… yes, from a pet shop.

These puppies are sold with no health guarantees or a contract of any kind. If you cannot keep the dog a year from now, this breeder doesn’t care what you do with it; if the dog ends up in a shelter, ‘it’s not her problem’ any more. If you breed your POMCHI to a morkiepoo, this breeder doesn’t care.

If your puppy ends up with that luxated patella or severe allergy…. well, that’s your problem now.

So… which breeder would you choose? You can substitute your favorite breed in either scenario, but the conditions remain the same.

By the way… Breeder A is the breeder of my boy Nick. Breeder B? “Hypothetical”. :-)
Mastiff Mommy- They are WONDERFUL people. I feel blessed that I was able to get a puppy from them. He is the love of my life.

Racecars… there is nothing wrong with adopting from a shelter. That’s wonderful. This is just a hypothetical situation, I am curious to see how everyone feels. I would NEVER say anyone is stupid for adopting a shelter dog.
Launi… have i told you lately that I ? you?
Tina… go back and re-read breeder A… the b*tch IS a champion, and has both obedience and field titles.

I don’t want to go back to the agility classes..what’s your novice agility class like?

Question by ?shelter puppies rule?: I don’t want to go back to the agility classes..what’s your novice agility class like?
(please scroll down for the question if you don’t want to read the long story)

I can’t believe I wrote the subject line, because I have been nothing but excited about agility ever since I got these dogs over a year ago, and when I finally registered for this class, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.

Then I had the class. It’s group novice agility. I know the instructor, she’s a nice woman. But the class was a huge disappointment. First, her 4 year old son was all over (the class was held in her yard). He acted just like a typical 4 year old showing off and getting close to bed time. But he took a baseball bat and slammed it on the ground repetitively right next to me saying he’s “bam bam” which I wouldnt have bothered me if my dogs weren’t there in an unfamiliar environment. For a split second, my dog looked like he was going to take the bat from the child, but it wasn’t in play, I know his body language, he was protecting me since the bat was coming just inches from hitting my face when he swung.

I immediately walked away, the dogs followed, they were fine.

But that happened right in the beginning and seemed to just set the mood. The child was all over, he didn’t want us using the equipment, he kept getting in between the dogs and me.

The second problem with the class was the equipment, although the instructor is getting new ones. The only agility equipment she had was the ramp and tunnel. But she had hula hoops for us to use too. Well when it was my dogs turns to finally use the ramp, the other owner’s dog jumped up and sat right on the ramp and wouldn’t let my dog go up. And everyone thought it was funny and the dog was so smart and claiming the ramp. Well yeah, ok I’d have thought it was funny too if I didn’t pay for this class and have to deal with a 4 year old for an hour. We never got to use the ramp, the other owners dogs are 2 shih tzus who are rescues and they rarely go outside. So they were fearful and most of the time was just spent on them. My dogs are 65 lbs and 25 lbs. It felt like we didn’t belong.

The whole training I got for agility, was to throw a treat through the tunnel and say “through” which my dogs weren’t getting anyway they kept going around the tunnel. It was a little too small anyway for my big dog, it kept bunching up on him when he did go in.

This is an inexpensive class. 0 for 7 weeks and my 2 dogs each get a turn. But I don’t have money to throw around and waste, I’d have spent it on something useful.

I signed a contract. It says, this class is to get dogs to feel secure around agility equipment and not actually running the course yet. So maybe this is what I signed up for??

Oh and more disappointing, there were 2 yorkie/maltese puppies there. Guess how much the owner spent on each of them? ,000. for a designer dog. What a joke it was for me to try to fight designer dogs. They might as well make breed standards for them so they can at least be bred with guidelines to make them healthy.

***************what was your beginner agility class like and would you go back if it was like mine?
thats good advice, thanks, I will definately not sign up for any class before seeing it first. this is the first time this particular instructor is teaching agility..so maybe that’s why it’s so bad and I should have realized.
lol no I was not concentrating on the ,000 “morkies”. I brought it up here because many of my buddies on YA know I’m against BYB/puppymills/designer dogs and i’ve seen them passionately try to fight them. That was just an add on for my “rant”

Best answer:

Answer by Erika
Well, you are nicer than me because I would have walked out on day one. But I don’t sign up without visiting a class first either. If you went to more than one class – well, I don’t think you can get your money back.

Next time, visit the class then sign up if you like what you see.

One of my good friends was on Trading Spaces. The way she got on was by standing out amongst everyone else. She and her husband were hysterical in their application tape. You have to first get their attention and then make them look at your story/personality and say…”We have to have this person!”

Spice up the story you just told here. Be a “character” , flamboyant, etc…. and humor is a MUST! Shows like Clean Sweep, etc. are about home improvement but are also try to be entertaining. Show them that you can be a great entertainer.

Talk about any “feuds” you and your partner have over your clutter. Talk about the mess. Say things like you’ve lost a shoe and haven’t seen it in over a year or you’ve lost your mate in the mess….something extravagant like that. You hit a lot of key notes in this story…just add a little more and really really really spice it up and make it funny…that is the key!

Oh and don’t just apply for one show, apply for them all. I have a feeling that you can get on one of the shows if you take my advice. You seem to have the personality they are looking for.

Good Luck!!!

Oh, and if they don’t call you right away…don’t give up. Contact them once a week and tell them that your mess is reproducing and taking on a life-form all it’s own and if they don’t come soon……………..(think of something bizarre)
